My name is Svitlana, and I am in desperate need of material and financial assistance, as well as any support in the form of food, household goods, shoes, or outerwear for my youngest daughter. My financial situation has always been difficult, and due to the war in Ukraine and rising costs, it has significantly worsened. I am a single mother raising two children alone. One of my children suffers from a rare disease—muscular dystrophy—and has an officially confirmed severe disability (Group 1, Subgroup A). My child is entirely dependent on my care 24/7. I have all the necessary medical documentation. We are officially recognized as a low-income family. My son’s father has passed away, and I have not had any contact with my minor daughter’s father for a long time, as he was not a Ukrainian citizen. Our only income consists of my son’s disability pension (approximately $200 USD), a care allowance of 18 USD/month, and state assistance for low-income families, which has been 10 USD/month for the past six months. In today’s reality, this is extremely insufficient for a family of three. The majority of our income goes toward my son’s lifelong medical treatments, which are unavailable in Ukraine and must be purchased from abroad, as well as essential hygiene and care products. My two children and I live alone, as all our grandparents are deceased. We do not receive any physical or financial help from relatives. I am unable to work because I cannot leave my son unattended. Additionally, after years of caring for him, I now have serious health issues myself. Our family is struggling both financially and psychologically. Unfortunately, the lifelong medical challenges we face have been worsened by the war. That is why my children and I would be sincerely grateful for any support from kind-hearted people. Thank you very much!
Anastasia wrote in her letter: My mom said I could write to you. I like having new friends. My family consists of my mom, my oldest brother and me. I have only two reasons to be sad – the war and my brother’s disease. He is the one with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Couple days ago, my brother turned 18th. I love my brother very much! It’s a pity, he lost his ability to walk many years ago, before my birth. Almost all of his time he spends at home. About me – my friends say that I am kind and obedient girl. I am trying to find some magician to make my dreams true. We all live in the west of Ukraine. I love my small, but nice native city very much. I’m studying at 2 nd grade. I like to study, it’s so interesting! Because of the war we don’t always have lights now and I miss school then. I have many friends there, I like to get knowledge, I like our classroom, I like my kind teacher, school breaks). I study English at school too.
