Mother Mariya shares: Good afternoon, dear friends. I am a mother of many children – I have four – and we are internally displaced. My eldest child, who is 12 years old, is seriously ill. We have been in treatment for a long time now, and throughout these years we have been barely making ends meet, because there is never enough money for treatment, food, and clothing for the children – almost all of our funds go toward his care.
My son is ill, but he keeps trying and fights for his life. He was diagnosed with three brain tumors, and throughout this whole time he has been in continuous treatment at the Okhmatdyt hospital in Kharkiv. He is a very bright, brave, and good-hearted child, and he has friends who support him.
He would love to have a bicycle, but I am not able to buy him one right now because I have no money – I have been left without work. We are under constant shelling and are almost always without electricity. Three days ago, there were more than 20 strikes on our infrastructure, and it is terrifying, but we are holding on.
My child keeps asking when the war will finally end, and he says: “Mom, I am so tired of waking up at night from the explosions.”
